Publishing news and analysis of Australia’s approach to refugees and asylum seekers
July 2021 – June 2024
The Conversation (Australia and New Zealand) is a collaboration between academics and journalists to publish research-based news and analysis. It is a not-for-profit organisation with its headquarters in Melbourne, Australia.
The Australian government’s approach to immigration, and particularly its treatment of asylum seekers and refugees is at odds with its obligations under international law and fails to reflect the values and sense of fairness to which many Australians subscribe. There are genuine alternatives available to Australian lawmakers and authorities.
The grant supports the publication and distribution of evidence- and research-based media coverage to build understanding of contemporary issues and possible solutions in asylum-seeker and refugee policy and practice.
